Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose Halberstadt Financial Consultants?
At HFC, we take pride in our strong credentials, years of experience, and high ethical standards. We have no conflicts of interest. We work in the best interests of our clients. As fee-only advisors who take no commissions.
Where is my money held?
As a client of HFC, you remain in control of your assets.
Though you grant HFC Limited Power of Attorney to execute purchases and sales on your behalf, your account is held in your name with Schwab Institutional or TD Ameritrade Institutional, two large, nationally-recognized custodians. This arrangement provides you with independent third-party reporting for your assets and investment activity.
You will receive monthly brokerage statements and transaction confirmations, and year-end tax reports, mailed directly from the custodian. You will receive from us quarterly statements giving you a broader perspective of your performance.
Would I work with an experienced advisor?
All of our clients work directly with an experienced advisor who will coordinate every aspect of your investment portfolio and tax and financial planning needs. Our top priority is to provide high quality, personalized service.
Will you keep my information confidential?
Absolutely. We keep all client information completely private, and you will receive a written statement that affirms our commitment to confidentiality. Your information will never be released without your express authorization (or as required by law).
Do you require discretionary authority over my account?
When you retain us as your investment advisor, you may choose to have a discretionary or a non-discretionary account.
What does it cost to manage my money?
We charge an Assets Under Management (AUM) fee that is based on a percentage of the market value of the account(s). This fee ranges from 1.00% to 0.33% of the annual value of the assets under management, based on the size of the account and the level of services requested. This fee is charged quarterly. We provide services continuously and there are no up-front commissions or payments.
How do you determine a fee for investment consulting or financial planning services?
Investment consulting fees are based on the time it takes to:
- Review your current holdings and investments
- Obtain information about your time frame and other factors
- Discuss our recommendations, in person or over the phone
Financial planning services are based on the time it takes to answer your questions and complete the project.
The rate for each service is $285 per hour. You will receive an up-front time estimate before we begin work. The minimum charge for clients who do not engage us to manage their investment portfolio is $712.50 (2.5 hours).
